Immigrant Family - Tom Otterness' bronze sculpture unveiled at 18 Yonge Condominiums
May 28, 2007

On Thursday, May 10, internationally renowned sculptor Tom Otterness joined Lanterra Developments' Chairman Mark Mandelbaum and President and CEO Barry Fenton; Rony Hirsch, President of Malibu Investments; members of the Toronto Public Art Commission; and a gathering of 18 Yonge Condominiums residents for the unveiling of "Immigrant Family" - the artist's first Canadian commission. The bronze sculpture was delivered from Otterness' Brooklyn, New York studio to Toronto, and was installed by Museumpros Art Services. The installation involved hoisting the artwork by crane onto a granite-clad base and affixing the commemorative plaque. This whimsical yet provocative sculpture located on the northwest corner of Yonge Street and Lake Shore Boulevard was commissioned as part of the Private Developer Percent for Public Art Program.

The location of this condominium warranted a world-class artwork. The building is situated across from Air Canada Centre, within walking distance of Union Station, Lake Ontario and most of the city's major entertainment venues and attractions. Wichita, Kansas-born Otterness (www.tomotterness.net) lives in New York and is considered one of the leading public artists working in the United States and Europe. "Immigrant Family" recalls the experience of visitors and new immigrants to Canada, capturing their sense of wonder at seeing the city and Lake Ontario, while gently bringing them close together as they embark on their new life. "I'm happy to commemorate Toronto's long tradition of welcoming immigrants from all over the world," says Otterness. "I'm also very honoured to work in a city with such a prestigious public art collection."

18 Yonge launches "affordable" penthouses
May 02, 2003

One of Toronto's best-selling condominiums, 18 Yonge Condominiums (at Yonge and Lakeshore Blvd.), has just released the top five floors - the Platinum Collection, which includes the upper and lower penthouse levels on the 39th and 38th floors. In just six months, this new Toronto landmark has achieved 70% of sales.

Lanterra Developments Ltd., H&R Developments and Malibu Investments Inc. attribute the success to great prices and a magnificent location. This outstanding value/location equation continues with the new release of 'affordable penthouses', as 90% of the Platinum Collection suites are priced from $193,800 to over $270,000 (with upper penthouse suites priced to $439,800).

The Platinum Collection offers spacious new suite designs along with some of the already popular model types repeated throughout the building. Sizes range from an efficient 581- sq.-ft. one bedroom, up to a 1,100-sq.- ft. two bedroom plus den. The curvilinear shape of the building combined with floor to ceiling windows lends drama to the internal configuration of the suites. Platinum Penthouse suites include 9-ft. ceilings and exquisite interior finishes such as engineered wood floors, granite kitchen countertops, and stainless steel appliances - on display in the model kitchen at the sales centre.
